Holden Hughes proved early on that he possessed the strength of spirit to fight, inspire and thrive – traits which he undoubtedly acquired from his parents, Jessica and Tom.
At 18 weeks pregnant, Jessica knew something was wrong: “I felt some cramps and went to the hospital. They told me I was leaking fluid, and I was put on immediate bed rest.”
“The strength and courage of my wife during those seven weeks amazed me,” says Tom. “She was determined to keep our baby safe and delay birth for as long as possible.” With the support of Swedish’s Antepartum unit staff, her family and friends, Jessica made it to 25 weeks and on June 14, 2010, their baby boy was delivered via cesarean section.
