Swedish is proud to be one of the top providers of charity care in our region and to offer free or discounted hospital services to those who cannot afford care – many of whom are under-insured or have no insurance at all. Most of the dollars to fund this effort come from Swedish’s operating budget, but a sizeable portion comes from private contributions.
It’s a major expense, to be sure. But when Dr. Nils Johanson founded Swedish in 1910, he made it abundantly clear that this hospital would provide excellent medical care to anyone who needed it. His voice still carries through our halls today, and we would be most grateful if you would help us honor his word of decency and compassion.
In 2012, Swedish provided nearly $36 million in charity care to our patients. We are committed to providing charity care to all who need it.
